‘Constant care’ is at the heart of the A.P. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation (the A.P. Moller Foundation).
After World War II, Danish shipowner, A.P. Møller wanted to protect his life’s work from being taken over by Danish or foreign competitors. So, in 1946, with the consent of his three children, he changed his shipping company into a family-run foundation. The foundation deed made it possible for the family to control and safeguard the company's guiding principles. In 1953, the Family Foundation was split in two, and the A.P. Moller Foundation was born.
The A.P. Moller Foundation was established as a commercial entity to ensure that the company, A.P. Moller - Maersk, will always be governed in the spirit of A.P. Møller’s legacy and support the following issues that were particularly important to him.
Other non-profit causes include education, research, social purposes, sport and leisure, conserving buildings of cultural and historical value, and other cultural interests.
The Foundation supports projects of all sizes in Denmark, Southern Schleswig, Greenland and the Faroe Islands. It initiates some projects, but generally supports good ideas, industriousness and collaboration with relevant stakeholders. All projects must be of high quality.
